James M. Fisher began The Seaboard Review (TSR) after spending ten years creating The Miramichi Reader (TMR), a successful Canadian book review site.1

James created TSR on the Substack platform and was fully prepared to carry on as a “solo” act. However, several contributors from TMR decided to leave there for various reasons and come over to TSR. Others joined, happy to find a friendly space to promote Canadian literature2 through book reviews. We are a small team of dedicated reviewers who love to read and review books, especially those from independent, small-press publishers.

Why subscribe to TSR?

We’ll never introduce a paywall, so subscribing will always be completely free. As a subscriber, you’ll also receive weekly email updates with early access to all new posts.

We rely on the generous support of readers like you to continue our work promoting Canadian authors and small, independent presses. If you’ve enjoyed our content and would like to help us grow, we invite you to consider making a paid donation.

Your contribution directly supports our mission and helps us bring even more exciting books and voices to the forefront. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference and allows us to keep doing what we love.

Thank you for being part of our community and helping us keep the literary conversation alive!3

As of 2024, it is under new ownership, and is a separate, unconnected entity to TSR.

2

We do occasionally review “international” books, but the focus of our mission is Canadian authors and small presses.

3

There are alternatives to a Substack paid subscription. We also have accounts with Ko-fi and Patreon.
